First-party analytics, plus the rest of the platform.

## Short answer

What they share: Both keep analytics first-party with no third-party trackers. Plausible is cookieless (it hashes the IP with a daily salt), while Temps sets two first-party cookies (_temps_visitor_id and _temps_sid), so consent requirements can differ. Where they diverge: Plausible is a focused web analytics product at $9/month for 10K pageviews and $19/month for 100K, with no free tier beyond a 30-day trial. Temps self-hosts free with unlimited sites and adds error tracking, session replay and uptime monitoring, which Plausible does not do. What Plausible has that Temps doesn't: A more mature and more polished analytics product, and a script of about 1.3KB gzipped — Temps' is larger because it also carries replay and error capture.

## TL;DR

| Dimension | Temps | Plausible | Better fit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Cookies and consent | Two first-party cookies | Cookieless (daily-salted IP hash) | Plausible |
| Analytics depth and polish | Solid, younger product | Focused, mature, best-in-class | Plausible |
| Tracking script size | Larger — replay and errors included | About 1.3KB gzipped | Plausible |
| Cost | $0 self-hosted, unlimited sites | $9–19/mo by pageviews and sites | Temps |
| Errors, replay and uptime | Included | Not offered — separate vendors | Temps |

## Key differences

- **No pageview tiers:** Plausible's hosted pricing is banded by monthly pageviews, starting at $9/month for 10,000. Self-hosted Temps analytics are not metered, so traffic growth does not move you up a plan.
- **Session replay included:** Plausible is deliberately analytics-only and does not offer session replay. Temps includes rrweb-based replay, which is the usual second subscription beside a privacy-first analytics tool.
- **Different routes to the same privacy stance:** Plausible is genuinely cookieless — it identifies visitors by hashing the IP, which is the stronger position and the reason it needs no consent banner. Temps' proxy sets two first-party HttpOnly cookies (_temps_visitor_id and _temps_sid) and its SDK uses localStorage, so it is first-party and self-hosted but not cookieless; check your own consent obligations rather than assuming they carry over. What Temps does add is that the data never leaves your infrastructure.
- **One binary for the whole stack:** Deployments, analytics, session replay, error tracking and uptime monitoring in a single Rust binary, with managed Postgres on the same server, rather than an analytics service you run beside everything else.

If web analytics is genuinely all you need, Plausible at $9/month is inexpensive and excellent, and bundling is not a reason to switch. The case for Temps appears when analytics is one of four tools you are paying for — at which point the comparison is not $9 against nothing, it is one subscription against several.

## Choose Temps if

- You want analytics, session replay, error tracking and deploys in one tool
- You do not want pricing banded by monthly pageviews
- You need session replay, which Plausible does not offer
- You are already self-hosting your platform and want analytics to live there
- You want the analytics to come with the platform rather than run as a fifth service

## Choose Plausible if

- Web analytics is all you need — Plausible is focused and does it very well
- You want the smallest possible tracking script; Plausible's is about 1.3KB gzipped
- You want a mature, hosted, privacy-first product with no server to run
- You value a single-purpose tool over a bundled platform
- $9/month is not a cost you are trying to remove

## Migrating from Plausible (easy)

Replace the Plausible script with @temps-sdk/react-analytics. Pageviews and goals map directly, but the consent position does not carry over: Plausible is cookieless, and Temps sets two first-party cookies, so re-check whether your jurisdiction requires a banner before you assume it does not. Historical data does not transfer — Plausible can export CSV, but there is no import path here, so run both in parallel if the history matters. Expect small discrepancies between any two analytics tools; they count bots and sessions differently.

## FAQ

### How much does Plausible cost?

The Starter plan is $9/month for up to 10,000 monthly pageviews, Growth is $14/month for up to 3 sites and Business is $19/month for up to 10 sites. There is a 30-day free trial with no card required, but no permanent free tier on the hosted product.

### Is Plausible open source?

Yes. Plausible Community Edition is the free, self-hosted release under the AGPL v3, so you can run it yourself instead of paying for the hosted product.

### Is Temps cookieless like Plausible?

No. Plausible sets no cookies and identifies visitors with a hash of the IP, user agent and a salt rotated every 24 hours. Temps' proxy sets two first-party HttpOnly cookies, _temps_visitor_id (365 days) and _temps_sid (30 minutes), and stores the data on your own server. Neither uses third-party trackers, but check your consent obligations for Temps rather than assuming Plausible's carry over.

### Does Temps do everything Plausible does?

For pageviews, referrers and goals, broadly yes. Plausible is the more focused and more polished analytics product, with a smaller script. Temps adds session replay, error tracking, uptime monitoring and deployments around it.
